“Strong academic core” and high quality “artistic, sporting, technical and cultural provision”; Ofsted praise for Lynn Grove Academy
In a report released today, Ofsted have praised Lynn Grove Academy for providing pupils with high quality “artistic, sporting, technical and cultural provision”, alongside its “strong academic core.”
The Great Yarmouth school, part of the Creative Education Trust, was rated good in all areas by inspectors who found that students are making “…good progress across a range of subjects in both key stages.” This strong academic progress was also reflected in the school’s last set of GCSE results where pupils achieved:
- better than national average and local authority average for Attainment 8
- better than national average and local authority average for the number of pupils achieving grade C or above in English and mathematics at GCSE
- considerably better than national average and local authority average for number of pupils achieving the English Baccalaureate
Inspectors were particularly impressed with the school’s commitment to developing the leaders of tomorrow by encouraging young people to take an active role in their education and in their communities; “The school provides many opportunities for pupils to take on leadership roles including pupil ambassadors, prefects, librarians and mathematics mentors. [Pupils] take their roles seriously… The learners’ voice group meet regularly to discuss with leaders areas of improvement…. Pupils views are listened to and considered.”
Other report highlights include:
- “The leadership of teaching is strong.”
- “Pupils are keen to succeed and show positive attitudes towards learning.”
- “Reading is a real strength of the school.”
- “The curriculum provides well for the pupils’ spiritual, moral and cultural development.”
- “Pupils leave the school well prepared for further education, training or employment.”
- Lynn Grove is an inclusive school with strong support for pupils with special needs that is leading to “rapid progress”
Alison Mobbs, Principal, Lynn Grove Academy said:
“At a time when there is pressure on schools to narrow their offer, we made the bold choice to maintain a truly broad and balanced curriculum, where our young people are encouraged and supported to realise their full potential. We dare them to think bigger than they ever thought possible. I am delighted that Ofsted have acknowledged the dedication, hard work and creativity of all of the staff and pupils at Lynn Grove. But don’t just take their word for it or mine, come and see Lynn Grove for yourself!”
Jake, a year 11 pupil commented:
“Pupils and teachers have worked really hard to make Lynn Grove a great school with opportunities for everyone to discover what they are good at – inside the classroom and outside of it. I am glad that the Ofsted inspectors saw this too.”
Marc Jordan, Chief Executive, Creative Education Trust said:
“In order for young people to be successful in the 21st century, they need a balance of knowledge, skills and creativity. Today’s Ofsted judgement shows that with its mix of strong academic subjects alongside its high quality artistic, sporting, technical and cultural provision, Lynn Grove is getting this right. Congratulations to all.”
